saija pergi jauh

PAKE CAPSLOCK SEGALA. yakaliii.. galak amat -____-

Saidjah & Adinda

Recently, I’ve been listening to The Trees & The Wild’s song, Saija. Then I browsed on google what is Saija? Saija they meant on the song was Saidjah, a character on Eduard Douwes Dekker (Multatuli)’s book, Max Havelaar.
“Saija remuk, dan dia kan sadar yang tak diam dengannya hanya waktu.”That’s the Saija’s lyric said.
It was a tragic love story from the Dutch-colonialism era, Saidjah was a very poor young man, what he did was taking care of his father’s buffalo, but one day the Dutch took the buffalo away and putted his father in jail because he couldn’t pay the tax. Adinda was his neighbor, and before his father went he asked Saidjah to marry Adinda one day. After Saidjah’s mother died in grief, he left Lebak to Batavia for the job as bendi boy. Before he left, he asked Adinda to wait for him. He promised that he will marry Adinda when he come back, he promised he will go for 36 months.

Time went away, and Saija got enough money to marry Adinda already. He went back home and he waited under the ketapan, as they promised together and he couldn’t wait to see Adinda,

“He paid much attention to the sinking of the stars in the west, and as each star disappeared in the horizon, he calculated how much nearer the sun was to his rising in the east, and how much nearer he himself was to seeing Adinda.”

But it was such a pain when the morning came and Adinda didn’t come, he decided to walk to the village where she lived but he found nothing but Adinda’s house turned into ashes. His heart broke, and he fell sick. Days went by, after his health went back to normal he decided to leave to join the insurgents against the Dutch in Lampoons.

Shockingly after he arrived at the burned village, he found Adinda’s father corpse with bayonet’s wound on his breast, and beside him laid down the corpse of Adinda’s brothers and a little further lay the corpse of Adinda, naked, and mutilated. This story ended with this;

“Then Saidjah went to meet some soldiers who were driving, at the point of the bayonet, the surviving insurgents into the fire of the burning houses; he embraced the broad bayonets, pressed forward with all his might, and still repulsed the soldiers, with a last exertion, until their weapons were buried to the sockets in his breast.”

and I proudly announce that both of the band above are my fave. :)
